Vaping
Vapes vs Cigarettes
Vaping is less harmful than smoking, but it’s still not safe.
Research suggests that vaping is bad for your heart and lungs, and of Jan. 21, 2020, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed 60 deaths in patients with e-cigarette, or vaping, product use associated lung injury (EVALI).
Though some people use electric cigarettes to stop smoking, electronic cigarettes are just as addictive as traditional ones.
This is because they both contain nicotine, a highly addictive substance that can cause your blood pressure and adrenaline to to increase, which increases your heart rate and the likelihood of having a heart attack.
Things to remember!!!
E-cigarettes have not received Food and Drug Administration approval as smoking cessation devices.
Also, a recent study found that most people who intended to use e-cigarettes to kick the nicotine habit ended up continuing to smoke both traditional and e-cigarettes.

How does Pitt county SADD teach its students to handle these issues?
The SADD chapters in Pitt County are determined to try and stop the trend of vaping. This trend has increased in middle and high schools all around the country. It is important that students have access to the correct information about the substances they are using. Though vaping can seem like a better alternative for traditional smoking, it can actually be more harmful. In Pitt County, SADD chapters are trying to educate the community the best they can about the dangers of vaping.
This past year, members of the D. H. Conley SADD chapter hosted an event called Escape the Vape. It consisted of 5 different stations that demonstrated the effects of vaping. Click this link to check out a short video: https://wcti12.com/news/local/school-works-to-prevent-vaping-show-danger
